Warriewood Patrols
PATROLS
Warriewood Beach is patrolled by volunteers on weekends and public holidays commencing late September to Anzac day in April.
There are 12 Patrol teams that are on duty for half a day approximately every three weeks.
If you are interested in becoming a lifesaver at Warriewood beach visit the membership section for the start of a fun and rewarding lifestyle.
PATROL REQUIREMENTS
Turn up to your patrol at least 15 minutes prior to start in full uniform and ensure you are signed on via the Patrol Ops App.
Check all gear is compliant including fist aid, defib, and oxy-via bottle
Each Patrol must have the following qualifications:

4 Proficient Bronze Medallion holders
- 1x Beach Management
- 1xIRB driver
- 1xIRB crew
- 1x ARTC
At the end of each patrol the IRB must be rescue ready with fuel bladder full (but not in the IRB)
SLS Portal & E-learning
Everyone is encouraged to familiarise themselves with the SLS Portal & the E-learning facility on Lifesaving Online, particularly signals, radios & resuscitation.

First AID (HLTAID011)

The course provides participants with the knowledge and skills needed to manage emergency first aid situations and deliver competent emergency care until the arrival of professional medical support. Once completed, participants will obtain a First Aid Certificate (HLTAID011)Provide First Aid) that is valid for three years.
The HLTAID011 First Aid course is nationally recognised approved training and is organized through Surf Life Saving NSW.

Advance Resuscitation Techniques (ART)
ADAVANCE RESUSCITATION TECHNIQUES
A prerequisite for the course is the new First Aid Course (HLTAID011). This is included as part of the training course if you don’t already have it. The First Aid Training will take place on a Saturday between 9am-4pm, the date will be determined when we have the final numbers.
AWARD SUMMARY
The aim of this course is to develop skills and knowledge to manage life-threatening external bleeding, use oxygen, airway management devices and automated external defibrillators during resuscitation, and to administer oxygen to conscious or unconscious victims.
UNIT/S OF COMPETENCY
• HLTAID015 Provide advanced resuscitation and oxygen therapy
SLSA AWARD ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
To commence training for the Advanced Resuscitation Techniques you must meet the following entry requirements:
• be at least 15 years of age on the date of final assessment
• be a financial member of a SLS club.
PRE-REQUISITES
Participants must hold the unit of competency HLTAID011 Provide first aid to enrol into this course.

IRB Driver Course
IRB DRIVER
The aim of this course is to provide participants with the skills and knowledge to effectively drive and manage an Inflatable Rescue Boat (IRB) in surf rescue operations.
Units/s of Competency
- PUAEQU001B Prepare, maintain and test response equipment
- PUASAR014A Operate and maintain a small powercraft and motor for rescue operations
These units are also part of the nationally recognised qualification PUA31312 Certificate III in Public Safety (Aquatic Search and Rescue)
Pre-Requisites
Candidates must meet ALL of the following conditions:
- be at least 16 years of age to commence training
- be at least 17 years of age on the date of final assessment
- hold and be currently proficient in:
– IRB Crewperson Certificate - meet local state/NT marine licensing requirements where required

IRB Crew Course
IRB CREW
The aim of this course is to provide participants with the skills and knowledge to effectively crew an Inflatable Rescue Boat (IRB) in surf rescue operations.

Candidates must meet ALL of the following conditions:
- be at least 15 years of age on the date of final assessment
- be currently proficient in Bronze Medallion

Gold Medallion
GOLD MEDALLION
The pinThe aim of this course is to provide participants with advanced skills and knowledge to manage emergency situations in autonomous situations.
Award
Upon successful completion of this course participants will receive the SLSA Gold Medallion award.
Course Content
- Perform Complex Patient Rescue and Support, Aided and Unaided by Equipment
- Select appropriate rescue equipment
- Access and manage the patient’s levels of distress
- Support and return patients to shore
- Perform a one-person drag technique and patient lay
- Perform Surf Skill and Fitness Test
- Complete a 400 metre swim, 800 metre run, 400 metre board paddle and 800 metre run in
- 25 minutes
- Complete tube rescue of patient 100 metres out at sea and return (flippers optional)
- Complete board rescue of patient 200 metres out at sea and return
- Work Autonomously
- Plan and undertake work activities
- Accept responsibilities
- Set performance requirements
- Maintain team performance
Entry Requirements
- Participants must be a minimum of 17 years of age on the date of final assessment.
- Participants must meet the following SLSA requirements:
- Hold a current SLSA Bronze Medallion/Certificate II in Public Safety (Aquatic Rescue)
- Hold a current Advanced Resuscitation Certificate
- Hold a current Senior First Aid Certificate
- Hold a current Silver Medallion Patrol Captain/Basic Beach Management
- Hold a current Spinal Management Certificate
- Complete an 800 metre swim in 14 minutes or less in a swimming pool no less than 25 metres

Silver Medallion Aquatic Rescue
SILVER MEDALLION – AQUATIC RESCUE
The aim of this course is to provide participants with the skills and knowledge to participate in search and rescue operations.
Units/s of Competency
- PUAOHS002B Maintain safety at an incident scene
- PUASAR011C Search as a member of an aquatic search team
Pre-Requisites
Candidates must meet ALL of the following conditions:
- be at least 16 years of age on the date of final assessment
- complete a 400 metre swim in 8 minutes or less in a swimming pool of no less than 25m length
- hold and be proficient in the SLSA Bronze Medallion (and hold the Certificate II in Public Safety (Aquatic Search and Rescue)

Silver Medallion Beach Management
SILVER MEDALLION – BASIC BEACH MANAGEMENT
The aim of this course is to provide participants with the skills, knowledge and experience required to manage a beach and a team in emergency and non-emergency situations. The course is aimed at people wishing to be Patrol Captains, Lifeguards and Lifeguard Supervisors.
Units/s of Competency
- PUATEA002B Work autonomously
- PUAOPE027A Undertake beach safety management activities
- BSBFLM312C Contribute to team effectiveness
These units form a part of the nationally recognised qualification PUA31312 Certificate III in Public Safety (Aquatic Search and Rescue).
Pre-Requisites
Candidates must meet ALL of the following conditions:
- be at least 17 years of age on the date of final assessment
- hold the Bronze Medallion award and the Certificate II in Public Safety (Aquatic Rescue)
- be proficient in ONE of the following:
- Bronze Medallion
- Radio Operator Certificate
- Advanced Resuscitation Techniques Certificate
- Apply First Aid
